Take a Moment to Consider the Spiritual
Needs of Brave Men and Women in Uniform
Soldiers Bible Ministry Continues to Freely Give
Hardly a day passes that Soldiers Bible Ministry (SBM) doesn’t receive at least one request for Bibles and study materials. It’s a tall order for this fast-growing non-profit outreach formed to bring encouragement and hope to our men and women in uniform.
Although SBM is surrounded by faithful partners such as Biblica (formerly International Bible Society Direct), Faith Comes By Hearing (Hosanna!), Koinonia House and Koinonia Institute, the fact remains that SBM continues to bear the expenses associated with many projects currently underway. For instance:
- Worship For Warriors® CD’s are now completed and in the beginning stages of distribution to every chaplain in the US military; immediate funding is needed to handle the cost of postage, materials and handling for the wide distribution of this unique production. (Note: You can order your copy at www.worshipforwarriors.com)
- The Military Heritage Bible is in the hands of a new publisher with April, 2012 as the target release date-thanks to Steve Spillman and True Potential Publishing (http://tppress.com). Urgently needed funding is required to cover the costs associated with the the various aspects of this project with a new publisher, such as promotion, marketing, etc.
- Phase II of SBM’s Bible Distribution Project in Pakistan is ready to begin. (See testimonies from Phase I here: http://hgimnetwork.org/category/mil/pak/.) Funds for this project will cover the costs associated with the purchase and distribution of Bibles and Bible study materials in Pakistan, as the project drills deeper into this country’s communities while sharing the Good News of Jesus Christ.
- Funding for initial deposits as plans for Israel 2012 Outreach targeting an October 2012 trip with special guide/speaker are a critical need in order to secure advance reservations at the lowest rates. More details about this trip will be made available once dates (with deposits) have been secured.
Of course, the urgent need for funding described is over and above the growing day-to-day costs associated with the ongoing ministry of Soldiers Bible Ministry.
The fact is, we need you but we want to bless you as well. You have been an incredible support to this ministry, both now and in the past. So, we have a small sampling of materials set aside for promotional purposes, duplicates of what we provide to chaplains and military leaders upon request, that we are making available to you as a way of expressing our most sincere and heart-felt thanks for your prayerful support. Of course, there is a very limited supply of these items, so they will be distributed as long as supplies last as we need to keep our inventory available for quick response to requesting chaplains and military personnel.

The Geneva Bible was the most widely read and influential English Bible of the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries, which was printed from 1560 to 1644 in over 200 different printings. As a product of superior translation by the best Protestant scholars of its day, it became the Bible of choice for many of the greatest writers, thinkers and historical figures of its day. Puritans John Bunyan and John Milton used the Geneva Bible, which is reflected in their writing. During the English Civil War, Oliver Cromwell issued a pamphlet containing excerpts from the Geneva Bible to his troops. The Geneva Bible was even brought with the Pilgrims when they set sail on the Mayflower and was the generally accepted text among the Puritans.

As you are probably aware, the Word of God – the Bible – is the greatest Book ever written. Not only that, it is commonly accepted that the Bible is the best-selling book of all time. What may not be so well known is that the Bible’s popularity has continued to grow and continues to be the best-selling book every year … year after year. We have set aside 10 copies of this coveted edition of the Bible brought with the Pilgrims when they set sail on the Mayflower. We can’t think of a better way to say “Thank You!” for your support as we continue to work on behalf of our modern-day patriots! (A percentage of your donation will be applied to costs associated with making this Bible available to SBM’s constituents.)

On April 10th, 2003, the 1st Battalion, 5th Marine Regiment, faced with the task of seizing the presidential palace in downtown Baghdad, ran headlong into what Lieutenant Colonel Oliver North called, “the worst day of fighting for U.S. Marines.” Hiding in buildings and mosques, wearing civilian clothes, and spread out for over a mile, Saddam Hussein’s militants rained down bullets and rocket propelled grenades on the 1st Battalion. But when the smoke of the eight-hour battle cleared, only one Marine had lost his life. Some said the 1st Battalion was incredibly lucky. But in the hearts and minds of the Marines who were there, there was no question. God had brought them miraculously through that battle. The men of the 1st Battalion came to discover what King David had discovered long ago-that God’s presence could be richly experienced even in the presence of enemies. |

We have 17 signed copies of “A Table In the Presence” available for use as promotional material. This book a powerful, firsthand account by US Navy Chaplain Carey Cash of how God worked, often miraculously, amongst the men of the 1st Battalion, 5th Marine Regiment in Iraq. Chaplain Cash is currently assigned to Camp David, the U.S. presidential retreat. As such, he has found himself ministering to President Barack Obama and, in this sense, can be considered Mr. Obama’s pastor. A 6 ft 4in graduate of the Citadel military academy in South Carolina and of Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, he is the great-nephew of the singer Johnny Cash and the brother of a former Miss America, Kellye Cash.
Lt. Cash served on the battlefield during the invasion of Iraq in 2003. As a fervent believer in the Christian faith, he was deeply committed to spreading Christianity within the armed forces and believed a “wall of angels” protected his men as they fought their way from Kuwait to Baghdad. He baptized more than 50 men during the war.
The personal testimonies shared in “A Table In the Presence” will both encourage and inspire you as you consider the challenges you face in life. Be sure to request your signed copy when you process your donation.

When Dr. Rachel Coggins received the call to serve overseas, the Army Reservist left a comfortable Georgia home to live in a harsh environment filled with challenge. Assigned to a base called the Gateway, she welcomed military members entering the war zones of Iraq, Afghanistan, and Kuwait and then bid them goodbye when it was time to return stateside. Chaplain Coggins listened to the warriors– to their fears, their worries, their heartaches, and sometimes, their joys. She became a confidante to some, a comfort to others, and a friend to still others. In retelling her experiences, Coggins reveals the struggles that confront today’s war-zone Soldiers and their loved ones, struggles that are often hidden from most Americans.

“You bring the war home and make it a personal journey, rather than some far away experience in a country most of us don’t even know.” -Carol Glover, Chaplain’s wife
“Compassionate, compelling and heart-felt! …rare insight and much needed perspective.” – Angela Marshall, Teacher

We don’t often come to you for emergency funding and neither do we beg for support or assistance. But there are times when it becomes necessary to openly share our immediate needs with you while praying that God will move on your heart to help us move forward with plans we believe are birthed in the heart of God. While we firmly believe and trust God as our Source and the Supplier of every need, we also know He most often uses people like you to help meet those needs. Thank you for considering these needs and for sharing this emergency appeal with your friends and contacts.
Please know we are eternally and deeply grateful for your continued prayerful support of Soldiers Bible Ministry. As always, please continue to keep all our troops, allied forces personnel, and all military families in your constant prayers.
