LOIS WENGER
SECOND PLACE WINNER

We are thrilled to have had so many entrants in our “Gospel in a Sentence” contest which ended on January 31st.  It was very difficult decision for our judges … many of the entries were very good and completely communicated the Gospel in a sentence!  However, as in any contest, someone had to win.  In this case, we actually had two top contenders whose entries ran extremely close in their rankings by our Judges.  In an effort to choose the winner, we added one more judge to give an impartial opinion.  Through that, we were able to select a winner.

Congratulations to Lois Wenger for her Second Place entry.  Her “Gospel in a Sentence” entry has a permanent place on the home page of Heart of God International Ministry’s new website designed and developed by Third Wish Design.

Without further adieu, here is a short interview Jan Ross of Heart of God International conducted with Second Place winner, Lois Wenger.

Jan:  Hi Lois, we were happy to receive so many entries to our “Gospel In a Sentence Contest!”  After some difficult deliberation, a difficult choice had to be made, but we couldn’t go “live” with the new website without including your entry as well.  We’re honored to display it and to introduce you to our visitors and readers!  Congratulations!

We are excited to have the opportunity to meet you and learn a little more about you.  But, first, we’re really anxious to know about your entry to HGIM’s contest.  How did you learn about it?

Lois:  I was looking for something on the internet and ran across your contest.

Gospel in a Sentence

Jan:  As you know, we are in the process of launching a new website for HGIM which is why we ran this contest.  As we were in the final phases of development, we were looking for a key sentence which clearly communicates the Gospel. Your entry came in a close second – so close, in fact, that we had to go beyond our panel of judges to find the winner.  A copy of your entry appears at the right.  How did you come up with this?  It’s so creative! What was in your heart or what were you thinking when you put these words together?

Lois:  I thought an acrostic would be a neat way to go, and the sentence came to me in a few minutes.  Of course, the first letter of each word was a given!!

Jan:  Excellent!  It works so well, Lois!  I love acrostics and the words you used were perfect!  Well done!  I don’t believe we’ve met before this contest, so gives us a little introduction so our readers will have the opportunity to meet you.

Lois:  I live in northern New York State and work part-time as a computer trainer and programmer in a hospital.  I also help homeschool a friend’s children and enjoy work inside (cooking, cleaning, sewing) and work outside (shoveling, mowing, gardening).  I also enjoy hiking, ice skating, and reading.

Jan:  I suppose you get your share of opportunities to shovel snow lately in northern New York.  Our new website is launching today and your quote has found a permanent place on our home page.  We’ll also be sharing this interview with our readers.  Do you have any final thoughts you’d like to share?

Lois:  I appreciate the work many people are doing the world over to get God’s message to others in their own language.  I’m thankful someone provided it for me.

Jan:  Thanks so much, Lois!  I’m glad we’ve had a chance to meet you.  We’re honored to have your participation in our contest and hope you’ll consider yourself a friend of HGIM!  We’re certainly blessed to share your “Gospel In a Sentence” with everyone!

“We are debtors to every man to give him the gospel in the same measure in which we have received it.” This quote by P. F. Bresee sums up the motive of Jan’s heart. Whether through her speaking, teaching, pen and paper, her trusty laptop, or music score, spreading the Gospel is of paramount importance. Whether a Bible study, devotional, short story, poem, website copy, testimonies, or new songs from the depth of her heart in worship, the presentation of the Gospel creativity flows from her heart with passion, purpose, and proof that the Lord is the central focus of her entire life. Jan’s heart beats in constant rhythm of encouragement for today along with hope for tomorrow based on her love for the Word of God, His Body, and those who have yet to hear the the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
