Did you know …

… that Benjamin Franklin was a soldier, a statesman, an author, a politician, a scientist, an inventor and one of America’s Founding Fathers who was a signer of the Constitution as well as our Declaration of Independence. He served as America’s first postmaster general and held ministerial positions to France and Sweden. At the Constitutional Convention of 1787 in an address on prayer he delivered on Thursday, June 28, 1787 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, he stated:

I have lived, Sir, a long time, and the longer I live, the more convincing proofs I see of this truth, that God governs in the affairs of men. And if a sparrow cannot fall to the ground without His notice, [Matthew 10:29] is it probable that an empire can rise without his aid? We have been assured, Sir, in the Sacred Writings, that “except the Lord build the House, they labor in vain that build it.” [Psalm 127:1] I firmly believe this; and I also believe that without His concurring aid we shall succeed in this political building no better, than the Builders of Babel [Genesis 11:8]: We shall be divided by our partial local interests; our projects will be confounded, and we ourselves shall become a reproach and bye word down to future ages. And what is worse, mankind may hereafter from this unfortunate instance, despair of establishing governments by human wisdom and leave it to chance, war and conquest. *

Needless to say, Mr. Franklin was quite adamant about his beliefs concerning the position God was hold in the building of this great nation. As we’ve shared before, a careful study of early American history will prove that God played a major role in the building of the United States’ government and legal systems while the Bible was the standard for building this new nation’s culture.
