Did you know …

the very first military order issued by Commander-in-Chief George Washington stated that:

“The blessing and protection of Heaven are at all times necessary but especially so in times of public distress and danger. The General hopes and trusts that every officer and man will endeavor so to live and act as becomes a Christian soldier defending the dearest rights and liberties of his country.” [1]

We read Peter’s words regarding the Christian’s call in 2 Peter 1:3-4:

“… everything of His divine power has been bestowed upon us for life and godliness, through the knowledge of the One Who called us by His own glory and power, through Whom the precious and very great promises have been bestowed upon us, so that through them you would become sharers of the divine nature, escaping from the depravity in the world …”
Peter reminds us that God has bestowed upon us the power to live as what Commander-in-Chief George Washington calls “Christian soldiers” through the One by Whom the precious and great promises become ours as partakers of Christ’s divine nature through faith in Him.

Once again, this reference is taken from the One New Man Bible which is being used for Soldiers Bible Ministry‘s new Military Heritage Bible.
