I know what you are thinking … “Hey where have you been?” Well, let me tell you! The Lord has been faithful to open new doors and avenues for SBM to continue strong in our mission to provide free Bibles and Bible study materials to our warriors in the States and abroad.  We’re grateful to Mark Rader of Biblica (formerly the International Bible Society), Mark Gustafson and Lori Mader of the Koinonia Institute for their continued gracious help with this vital part of our mission.

Available Veterans Day 2011, Soldiers Bible Ministry, partnering with WND Books, presents The Military Heritage Bible. This compilation combines wisdom from the Founding Fathers, historical government documents, and military tradition, highlighting America’s Judeo-Christian heritage and the key roles faith and Christianity have always played in the military. This Bible also includes contributions from influential modern-day community leaders including David Barton and Ray Comfort.

Almost a year ago we received a request from a chaplain who was being deployed to Afghanistan.  He was looking for a CD of traditional hymns that would encourage those in his services to sing along while giving them the opportunity to “meet” the traditional hymns which are so rich in both verse and score. When we couldn’t find exactly what we wanted, SBM volunteer Michal Phillips (www.michalphillips.com), who just happens to be an accomplished musician, was up for the task. Michal pulled together a CD of traditional hymns with an all-male vocal military choir and musicians.  Worship for Warriors® is now in final pre-production stages and will be available soon.  Please  watch the SBM web page for more information.

During the past year we have been working with Chris Rogers of CDR Communications, the producer of “Resisting the Green Dragon” DVD on a new documentary titled: “Not Led Astray.”  SBM Executive Director, John Hoben and Chris will be interviewing many authoritative and interesting believers for this unique production.  “Resisting the Green Dragon” DVD is still available on our website.  Make sure you get a copy before they are gone; click here to order directly from SBM.

We have added a new book to our Chaplain Package titled, “Gateway to Iraq” by Chaplain Rachel Coggins.  Her book outlines the unique challenges she experienced as a Base Chaplain in Kuwait. Being stationed where troops are either going home or on their way to deployment, her observations and conversations with these brave warriors were heartfelt. The love of Christ Jesus emanates through her as she reaches out to the young men and women God puts in her path.

SBM is now partnering with a dedicated and proven Christian organization in Pakistan. As if that’s not enough, SBM has received a special invitation to visit Israel this September.  A small group will be traveling to Israel to achieve key initiatives while exploring further ministry opportunities in the most fought-over piece of real estate on the planet. Please be in prayer for our team as they seek the Lord’s will and make their plans accordingly.

Geneva Bible Update

Just FYI… I ordered 15 bibles thinking that I would have a few left over to spread around. After they arrived, I had several sitting on my desk and they seemed to be a magnet. People kept coming in, picking them up and asking for a copy. I was thoroughly surprised at the interest. It has been a subject of discussion and historical digging. The most satisfying result is the number of people that have not expressed much or displayed much of a Christian character, that have taken the bibles and are now reading them.

Who knows the wonders of Gods works?  Jeremiah 33:3.

There are 40 soldiers that have signed up for the study and I have already sent a guitar and music for the worship! Thanks so very much for your ministry to our sons and daughters so very far away!! May the Lord continue to bless you folks for the unseen work that you do in His name! So that you might rejoice with me, a young soldier on his first deployment overseas was led to the Lord by *** while awaiting transport on the tarmac at Bangor, Maine. As the transport plane rolled up they were in the presence of the Lord forever sealing this young man’s eternal soul in the blood of Jesus. That is the calling on ***’s life…and it gives me so much joy!

Learn the Bible in 24 Hours Update

Hello everyone,

We did receive the Missler study and we’re heading into week 5. Attendance has been solid at 6 Soldiers per week. We’re in the R&R phase of our deployment so we have people in and out every few weeks.

The impact I have seen is the strengthening of new believers faith in the Word, it’s also served as an eye opener for maturing believers as well. We’ve had excellent discussion each week.

Prayer Request

“For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places.” (Ephesiahs 6:12)

As you know we are now involved in three wars; the Administration is cutting the defense budget; and our chaplains face new challenges of what they can and can not say or do as they shepherd their flocks.  Pray for them, that they do not compromise their faith in the One who shed His Blood for us all so “…whoever believes in Him would not perish but have everlasting life” (John 3:16).
